The official trailer of Avengers: Doomsday has finally been unveiled. One of Marvel Studios' biggest films to date, the movie brings together heroes from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and the New Avengers as they unite against a common enemy: Victor Von Doom, aka Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
The trailer was first screened for fans at San Diego Comic-Con before making its official online debut today.
It opens with Professor Charles Xavier sensing an impending catastrophe. "Something is coming. Something that we may not be able to deter. Before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision," he warns, setting the tone for the multiverse-spanning conflict.
The focus then shifts to Thor, who delivers an emotional rallying cry. Reflecting on the countless battles he has fought, Thor says he has faced warriors far stronger than all the heroes assembled, yet they all fell. He admits that none of those enemies frightened him as much as the threat they now face. Urging the heroes to set aside their differences, Thor reminds them that every sacrifice they have made will be meaningless unless they stand together.

The footage teases uneasy alliances as well as clashes between heroes before they unite for a common cause.

At the centre of the conflict is Doctor Doom, who appears to be orchestrating a catastrophic multiversal war. Marvel first announced Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the MCU as Victor Von Doom at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, marking a dramatic departure from his iconic role as Tony Stark aka Iron Man.
In the comics, Doom is the brilliant yet ruthless ruler of Latveria and one of Marvel's greatest villains, known for combining scientific genius with mystical powers.
The trailer culminates in a showdown between Thor and the masked Doctor Doom. Thor charges at him with Stormbreaker, but Doom effortlessly halts the attack, hinting at the immense power he possesses.
Just when Thor says, "We need a miracle," Steve Rogers steps into the frame, leaving Thor visibly stunned.
For those who may have forgotten, Steve Rogers retired at the end of Avengers: Endgame after returning the Infinity Stones to their timelines. Choosing to remain in the past with Peggy Carter, he grew old and later passed on Captain America's shield to Sam Wilson. His youthful return in Avengers: Doomsday is expected to be tied to the film's multiverse storyline, though Marvel has not yet revealed how he is back.
Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, is slated to release in theatres on December 18, 2026, and will pave the way for Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
