OG Sita Dipika Chikhlia Praises Ranbir Kapoorâs Ramayana Teaser

The teaser of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is finally out, with Ranbir Kapoor stepping into the role of Rama, alongside Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. As expected, the first glimpse has sparked comparisons with Ramanand Sagar’s iconic TV show. Dipika Chikhlia, who became synonymous with Sita in the original series, has now reacted to the teaser, and her response might surprise many.

Ramayana
In a recent chat with India Today, Dipika appreciated the scale and visual richness of the teaser, sharing that she is now looking forward to the film. She said, “I watched the teaser and it's very grand. Bahut rich lag raha hai. Unhone bahut achhe se banaya hai. (It looks very rich. They made it very well). So now I'm awaiting the film and it's looking very beautiful, there's no doubt about it.”
Her current reaction marks a shift from what she had expressed earlier. Back in June 2024, Dipika had admitted, “Honestly, I am quite disillusioned by people who keep making Ramayan because I don't think you should be doing it. People are making a mess of it. I don't think people should be making Ramayan again and again because every time they make it, they want to bring in something new; a new story, a new angle, a new look.” She had also criticised Om Raut’s Adipurush during that time.

Ramayana
Dipika rose to fame in the late 1980s when Ramayan aired on Doordarshan, becoming a household name for her graceful portrayal of Sita. Meanwhile, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is being mounted as a massive two-part cinematic event, backed by Namit Malhotra and co-produced by Yash, with music by Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman and VFX by DNEG. Sharing his journey, Nitesh said, “Today, looking at your reaction, I feel the seven years are worth those seven years.” Namit added, “We've made this (film) with a lot of love... You don't pick Ramayana, Ramayana picks you.”
The first part is set to release on Diwali 2026, followed by the second in Diwali 2027.
