Eric Bauza Voice Of Bugs Bunny And Daffy Duck Passes Away At 46

The world of animation has lost one of its most beloved voices. Eric Bauza, the Emmy award winning voice actor who carried Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck into a new generation, has died at 46. His family announced the news on his Instagram page on Sunday night, October 25, saying he had “passed away suddenly.”

Details are still limited. According to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records cited, he died at his home of hypertensive cardiovascular disease. Just a day earlier, he had posted a picture from the LightBox Expo in Pasadena, posing with animator David Silverman.

Born in Toronto, Bauza spent over two decades building one of the most prolific voice careers in the business. He stepped into the enormous shoes left by Mel Blanc, voicing Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety, Elmer Fudd, Foghorn Leghorn, Marvin the Martian, Yosemite Sam and the Road Runner. He once described voicing Bugs as “a dream come true,” having grown up idolising Blanc.

The trophies followed. He won Children’s and Family Emmys for Teen Titans Go!, Bugs Bunny Builders and Looney Tunes Cartoons, the last of which earned him the category’s first-ever Outstanding Voice Performance award in 2022. On the big screen, his credits included Space Jam: A New Legacy and The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, where Variety’s Peter Debruge called him a “vocal MVP.”

One of his final performances came in Coyote vs. Acme, released earlier this year after the film was rescued from the shelf, where it had landed in 2023. Warner Bros. Television Group chair Channing Dungey paid tribute, saying Bauza “brought joy and laughter to millions around the world.”

At the time of his death, Bauza was in pre-production on Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical, in which he was set to voice Daffy Duck, and on The Dragon Masters. He is survived by his wife Jessica, whom he married in 2016, and their son.

That’s the thing about a great voice. You may never have seen his face. You still knew him in a single line.
