Veteran Bengali Actress Mithu Mukherjee Passed Away At 71 After Battling Cancer

September 21, 2026, marks a sad day in the world of cinema following the passing of veteran actress Mithu Mukherjee.

Mithu Mukherjee was a prominent name that echoed across the industry and in the hearts of all her die-hard fans. She was especially active during the 1970s and 1980s, featuring in multiple projects in lead roles.

Born in Kolkata, Mukherjee entered the industry at the tender age of 17, debuting in Shesh Parba in 1972. She quickly became a household name following her breakout role in Marjina Abdulla. She has featured in a number of Bengali films through her prime years, including the likes of Swayamsiddha, Hotel Snow Fox, and more.

Some names that resonate in our minds from her stint in Hindi cinema include Dillagi, where she starred alongside Dharmendra and Hema Malini, and Khaan Dost, alongside Raj Kapoor.

Throughout her career, she ensured to deliver a lasting impact through whichever role assigned, small or big. Her last ever film was Chandra Barot’s Ashrita in 1990. After that, she took the decision to exit the industry gracefully and live a private life.
