Zoya Akhtar has finally given fans the update they’ve been waiting for years for, a sequel to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is officially in the making. As Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara marks 15 years since its release, director Zoya Akhtar has confirmed that conversations about the much-awaited sequel are finally in progress. The filmmaker has confirmed that she is working on a follow-up story to the Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol-led film.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the Monsoon Film Festival, Akhtar confirmed that work on the much-awaited sequel is underway and said, “We are on it.” She added, “We don't know what will happen and what won't... if we will get to a place it feels correct, in catching up with these characters today. But it will be nice.”
This marks the clearest indication yet that the much-awaited sequel is actively in development. Earlier this year, Zoya Akhtar had remained silent when questioned about Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2, simply stating, “When it happens, I’ll announce it.”
Speculation about Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2 gained fresh momentum after Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol reunited for a tourism campaign, leading fans to believe that a sequel announcement was around the corner. Addressing the buzz, Zoya Akhtar revealed that many viewers even mistook the campaign for a trailer, saying, “People thought it was a trailer.”
The filmmaker’s update has once again sparked excitement among fans who have been eagerly waiting for the return of the beloved film.
Released in theatres on July 15, 2011, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara featured a stellar cast led by Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin, with Naseeruddin Shah and Deepti Naval in pivotal roles.
