With just two days left for Thudakkam to arrive in theatres, director Jude Anthany Joseph has shared a heartfelt social media post about lead actor Vismaya Mohanlal and her mother, Suchitra Mohanlal. Along with a set of candid photographs featuring the three of them, the filmmaker reflected on the bond they developed during the making of the film and revealed a thoughtful gesture from Suchitra that, he says, will stay with him for years.
"They may be mother and daughter to the world, but to me, they’ll always be my elder sister and younger sister," Jude wrote, referring to Suchitra and Vismaya. The message offered a glimpse into the personal relationships that blossomed behind the scenes as the director worked on what marks Vismaya's first feature film.
Jude also shared that Suchitra presented him with a wristwatch after watching Thudakkam, describing it as one of the most meaningful gifts he has received. "The second picture is a beautiful gift from Suchi Chechi after watching Thudakkam—a gesture I’ll treasure for a lifetime. Thank you, dear Chechi, for your love, encouragement, and this unforgettable memory," he wrote.
The post quickly found appreciation among fans, with many wishing the team well ahead of the film's release and praising the warmth shared between the director and the Mohanlal family.
A milestone film for Vismaya Mohanlal
Thudakkam is a significant project for several reasons. It marks the acting debut of Mohanlal's daughter, Vismaya Mohanlal, who steps into cinema after establishing herself as an author and artist. Joining her is another newcomer, Ashish Joe Antony, son of producer Antony Perumbavoor, making the film a launchpad for two fresh faces.
The recently unveiled trailer suggests that Thudakkam blends an emotional family story with the tension of a home invasion thriller. Vismaya appears at the centre of the narrative, while Sai Kumar is seen playing her onscreen father. The trailer concludes with a brief but impactful glimpse of Mohanlal, who is expected to appear in an extended cameo.
Jude returns after 2018
Thudakkam also marks Jude Anthany Joseph's first directorial venture since 2018, the blockbuster survival drama inspired by the Kerala floods. Released in 2023, the film emerged as one of Malayalam cinema's biggest commercial successes and was widely appreciated for bringing together an ensemble cast that included Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Tanvi Ram and several others.
Backed by Antony Perumbavoor under the Aashirvad Cinemas banner, Thudakkam has been written by Linish Nellikkal, Akhil Krishna and Jude Anthany Joseph. Apart from Vismaya, Ashish Joe Antony, Sai Kumar and Mohanlal, the film also features Bobby Kurian, Manoj K Jayan, Ganesh Kumar, Aswin, Essa, Kottayam Ramesh, Jaya Kurup and Jaffar Idukki in pivotal roles.
With anticipation surrounding Vismaya's debut continuing to grow, Jude's latest post has added a personal touch to the film's final stretch of promotions, highlighting the relationships forged during its making just before audiences get to experience the story on the big screen.
