The much-awaited third part of the beloved Hera Pheri franchise faces uncertainty as filmmaker Priyadarshan has officially confirmed he is no longer associated with the project. The director’s confirmation follows recent statements made by producer Feroze Nadiadwala in an interview, where he indicated that Priyadarshan would not be directing the sequel. Addressing these reports, Priyadarshan told Hindustan Times, "What Feroze has said is true. I am not associated with Hera Pheri 3 at present."
Apart from his exit as director, Priyadarshan expressed some uncertainty about the project's overall viability. Highlighting the ongoing complications around the film, he said, "To the best of my knowledge, Hera Pheri 3 will never hit the screen due to lots of legal issues and personal conflicts. Whether I am involved or not is unimportant."

This development adds to a long history of challenges for the franchise. While the original Hera Pheri (2000), directed by Priyadarshan, is widely regarded as a cult classic, and its 2006 sequel Phir Hera Pheri, directed by Neeraj Vora, saw commercial success, the third film has struggled to move forward.
The main hurdle has been a sustained legal dispute regarding the ownership of the franchise and its characters. A South-based production company, Seven Arts International, has claimed rights to the franchise, a claim that Feroze Nadiadwala has disputed. Previously, a spokesperson for Akshay Kumar’s production house mentioned that they had acquired rights from Nadiadwala under the understanding that he was the owner.

The project had been expected to reunite the original cast of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal with Priyadarshan as director. The project previously faced a setback when Paresh Rawal exited the film in May 2025, though he later rejoined. Despite the current situation for Hera Pheri 3, the leading trio recently worked together on Welcome To The Jungle, which was also produced by Feroze Nadiadwala.
