The Central Board of Film Certification has cleared Kesari 2 with no cuts. The Karan Singh Tyagi directorial stars Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday. As per reports, the film has been given an A certificate. Tyagi has been asked to submit a No Objection Certificate from the Animal Welfare Board for some scenes.
As per a source quoted by Midday, "The CBFC’s current approach is haphazard. Kesari: Chapter 2 is a historical drama, so was Chhaava, but both carry separate certifications. If the gore in Kesari is the reason for its A certificate, Chhaava’s last half-hour was gory too. That said, one can argue that the makers of Kesari provided historical proof of everything shown in the film."

The publication also quoted another source who stated, "The CBFC has become strict when it comes to films dealing with caste, religion, or political themes. Thankfully, with Kesari, they haven’t asked for any narrative changes."

Talking of CBFC being strict, the board has recently asked for several cuts in Patralekhaa and Prateik Gandhi's Phule and also asked the makers to delete some dialogues related to cast before its release. The makers have been asked to remove words such as Mang, Mahar and Peshwai. Last month, it also blocked the release of Sandhya Suri's Santosh in India over portrayal of violence in police force, casteism and Islamophobia.

About Kesari 2
Kesari 2 is based on the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. It follows lawyer and former Indian National Congress President C Sankaran Nair (played by Akshay) and his fight with the Crown over the massacre. As the hearing about the Jallianwala Bagh massacre begins, Nair questions General Dyer and his intentions. R Madhavan plays the fierce opposition lawyer Neville McKinley. The two are poised for a face-off in the courtroom. Meanwhile, Ananya Panday essays the character of lawyer Dilreet Gill, and she’s unafraid to call out the men in the male-dominated field. From what we’ve seen so far in the trailer, the film is a riveting courtroom drama that will revisit one of the darkest chapters of Indian history.
Kesari Chapter 2 will release in theatres on April 18, 2025.
