Jim Carrey made Ace Ventura to destroy Hollywood?

Jim Carrey has been known for his roles in the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Truman Show and The Mask. While audiences appreciate his comedic roles, many were confused with his role in Ace Ventura. During a recent discussion about the film. Carrey opened up on him choosing to take up the project. While speaking, he revealed that his intentions with the movie were different while making the movie.

While delving deeper into the movie, Jim noted that he made Ace Ventura to "destroy Hollywood, not be a part of it." He noted that he made it to make fun of the hero, "the guy with the answers." "I did it to make fun of the leading man, to make fun of the guy with the answers, the Sherlock Holmes meets Clint Eastwood kind of actor. To me, there always has to be a subversive aspect. You don’t have to go far, you just have to go to an honest place. Honesty is subversive," he added.

He further added, "In the city of masks, I hear it said that most of us are wearing one, and when somebody is authentic, it becomes very difficult for everyone to wear their masks. They start to really look at masks."

Tom Shadyac directed Ace Ventura (1994) has been made as a spoof on the traditional detective tale. It explores the life of Ace Ventura, a pet detective on a quest to find the Miami Dolphins’ missing mascot, Dan Marino. Carrey impressed critics with his comedic timing and performance. His expressions and movements were quite appreciated by fans.

The Truman Show is re-releasing, however, it is unclear whether Ace Ventura will get a re-release. The film stars Carrey along with Laura Linney, Ed Harris, Noah Emmerich, Natascha McElhone, Holland Taylor, Paul Giamatti and Philip Baker Hall, among others.
