Another sequel of Shrek, temporarily titled Shrek 5, is officially in the works with the core voice cast including Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz. The production company behind Shrek confirmed the news on Wednesday, announcing that the movie is slated to release on July 1, 2026.
The first Shrek movie, released in 2001, earned widespread acclaim and great box office numbers. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and competed for the prestigious Palme d’Or as the sole animated film.
In an interview with a leading Hollywood portal, Eddie Murphy, who voices Shrek's friend Donkey said, "We started doing (Shrek 5) months ago... I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year.”
