Late Irrfan Khan was the first choice for Jaideep Ahlawats role in Maharaj

Maharaj, based on true events from pre-Independence India, stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan, Shalini Pandey and Sharvari Wagh in crucial roles. The film highlights the courage of social reformer Karsandas Mulji and is available to watch on an OTT platform.

At a recent press meet, Siddharth P Malhotra revealed a surprising detail about his film Maharaj. He revealed that the late Irrfan Khan was the original choice for the spectacular role, played by Jaideep Ahlawat.

Malhotra shared, "The only person we could think of for that role was Irrfan Khan. There was nobody else who could play this role but Irrfan Khan." Following Irrfan's passing in 2020, the director considered Jaideep Ahlawat and was convinced of his capability. He added, "I kept telling Jaideep sir there's only one actor in the entire universe who can do this, and that's him."

Jaideep's dedication was commendable for the part. After wrapping up the shoot, Malhotra felt Jaideep's introductory scene needed a re-shoot. Despite gaining weight, Jaideep insisted on getting back in shape and shot for the sequence again.
