Kedarnath is a film that has constantly managed to stay in headlines for many reasons. Other than the fact that it marks the Bollywood debut of Saif Ali Khan’s daughter Sara Ali Khan, the film has been constantly surrounded by controversies and has had to face multiple delays before finalising a release date. Its shooting got stalled for sometime due to a production dispute between Abhishek Kapoor and production house KriRaj Entertainment. It later also faced trouble from some sections for allegedly promoting ‘love jihad’. However, despite all odds, the film is set for a nationwide release on December 7. Ever since the trailer of the film was dropped, fans were left impressed and have been eagerly waiting to watch the story unfold on the big screen. So, ahead of its release on tomorrow, we have listed out five reasons why you must watch Kedarnath.
1.Sara Ali Khan

Over the years, we have seen a host of new talent make its way to Bollywood. While many of them have impressed with their performances, some didn’t live up to expectations. So, naturally, Sara Ali Khan has a lot riding on Kedarnath since this will give us the very first glimpse of her acting ability. Even though Sara Ali Khan is yet to make her debut in Bollywood, she already seems to have established quite the following. As the beautiful actress has been doing the rounds on reality shows, television shows and other events in order to promote her film, she already seems to have won over the hearts of people thanks to her confidence, gravitas and wit.
Her recent appearance on Karan Johar’s Koffee with Karan along with father Saif Ali Khan also seems to have helped peak the excitement amongst the crowd ahead of her debut film. While the trailer of a film is definitely not enough to judge someone, Sara does manage to make a formidable impression which has gotten us even more curious to see her in the film. Check it out for yourselves below.

In fact, in an interview with a leading daily, Sara’s father Saif Ali Khan spoke about how passionate she is about acting and revealed how he learnt that she will be making her debut with Kedarnath. He said, “She simply came to me and told me that she is doing Kedarnath. We never discussed the script in detail, as I don’t think my opinion matters. Since it is her independent decision, she is happy to either fly with it or go down with it. I would say read a script properly... that’s always good. I think Sara is a very bright girl... She is well educated and has got a nice mind. She has a lot of well wishers around her... from her mother (actress Amrita Singh) to me, Karan Johar to everybody. She can seek advice from anybody. I am very happy that she is doing something she is passionate about and it’s a beautiful job.”
2.Inspired by true events

How often do we have films based on real life natural disasters, and that too something that is still alive and fresh in our memories? Kedarnath, as its title suggests, is based on the devastating Uttarakhand floods of 2013, leaving thousands dead and stranded.

The makers have decided to keep this as the core plot of the film along with a love story of a rich upper caste Hindu girl and a poor muslim porter, who she takes as a guide for the pilgrimage. The film revolves around how the two of them of struggle for their survival when nature wrecks havoc all over.
3.Sushant Singh Rajput and Abhishek Kapoor’s second collaboration

While everyone knows that Abhishek Kapoor is helming Sara Ali Khan’s debut Bollywood project, what’s interesting is that her Kedarnath co-star Sushant Singh Rajput made his Bollywood debut under Abhishek Kapoor as well.
Abhishek Kapoor had directed Sushant in Kai Po Che (2013). Along with Sushant, the film also starred Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh in leading roles.

Kai Po Che went on to be a critically acclaimed film and also had a decent run at the box-office. So, with Kedarnath all set to release tomorrow, we’re super excited to see what this combination has in store for us again.
4.Love Jihad

Well, who doesn’t like to watch a story in which there’s a battle of love against the world? The concept of caste differences, differences in social or financial status might have been utilised more than a few times in Bollywood, however, they definitely seem to strike a special cord with the audience even today. In Kedarnath, Sushant’s character is accused for Love Jihad aka Romeo Jihad.

For the uninitiated, the term Love Jihad is used to describe alleged campaigns under which Muslim men target women belonging to non-Muslim communities for conversion to Islam by feigning love. While there are no official evidence supporting these claims, this concept rose to national attention in India in 2009 with alleged conversions in Kerala and Karnataka. Kedarnath tackles this concept in their film with the backdrop of the Uttarakhand floods that took place in 2013.
5.Stunning visuals

The trailer of Kedarnath gave us few glimpses of the some incredible visual effects that we will witness in the film. From the stunning shots of the Himalayan valley, the landslides, the flash floods to the underwater sequences, the Cgi in this film looks pretty much spot on. One scene that caught our eye was when when Sushant holds on to Nandi, the bull’s horns for support when submerged in water, as Sara and her father cling onto him. If you observe closely, there are many mythological symbols subtly included in the visuals of the trailer as well.

Like the shot in which the rushing water crashes against the Kedarnath temple, it forms a shape of Sheshnag, a snake with multiple heads who is known to protect Lord Krishna.
